A study conducted by Booz and Company, a well-known research company, on British consumers reveals that around 25% of the consumers have cut back on their spending on media and communication and that another 26% might do so in the next six months.

Moreover, 23% of the respondents to the survey said that they might not renew their broadband connections or TV subscriptions, while 25% said that they would explore cheaper options for their mobile connection or consider mobile broadband pay as you go as a means of cutting their monthly costs.

Based on its research, the group has cautioned telecom companies that this trend of reduced spending by consumers can lead to some serious consequences for the mobile broadband industry.

There was positive news for some of the operators though, as the report revealed that 45% of the consumers would like to explore the option of bundled packages of media and telecommunications services. This implies that BT along with other broadband operators who provide such bundled services will not face too much trouble in the coming months, and they may even be able to expand their business.

The head of Booz and Company in the UK, Michael Peterson, said that businesses need to give high priority to realigning their products and services in the next few months to make sure that they remain attractive to the customers. It is important that these companies also pay attention to their long term plans because the consumers are now more informed about the services available in the market.

First of all, it was the first provider to offer free calls between its customers, then it was the first to offer free bundled broadband to its phone customers, now TalkTalk customers are being given the opportunity to make use of free local calls, anytime.

From the 1st May all TalkTalk customers will be able to benefit from the free call offer and shortly after, on the 2nd June calls will also be free to all 0845 and 0870 numbers.

According to TalkTalk, a large proportion of UK calls made by its customers are currently to local numbers, so the offer looks set to save its subscription base a far whack whilst giving them the freedom to chat without the worry of a hefty bill. Speaking on the offer, Wendy Becker, managing director of TalkTalk, commented: “At TalkTalk we’re always looking to give customers a better deal, especially in these uncertain times. Given that 70 per cent of all the UK calls that our customers make at to local numbers, making those calls free will give a significant boost to our customers who want to keep in touch with their neighbours, friends and local services.”

To balance out the offer TalkTalk has already confirmed it will be increasing the standard line rental charge to £11.25 a month although this price rise will only be in accordance with BT’s latest line rental increase.

Manufacturers are now slowly beginning to incorporate nanotechnology into their products. Some examples of nanotechnology-inspired products include sunscreens that contain nanoparticles of zinc or titanium oxide, scratch-resistant coatings, and clothes. In the future, nanotechnology is expected to bring significant changes in the economic, military, and cultural level.

Mobile Broadband - the latest internet craze! Not only is this fantastic technology (I use it regularly and think it’s great) already available at low, competive prices, but now there is a great new offer that gets you a free laptop with your mobile broadband. This innovative approach has been spreading round the major broadband companies like wildfire and sounds good to me.

One of mobile broadband’s key players, Orange, has now launched its own “mobile broadband + free laptop” offer. As well as great cost of £25 a month, Orange’s dongle also comes with a handy ASUS Eee PC laptop, 16GB of storage, 1024Mb of RAM and an ultra-light weight of 0.99kg. This package deal makes Orange a dangerous competitor in the mobile broadband market.

The package does have its downside though. For instance, the dongle has a relatively slow connection speed of 1.8Mbps and a pretty average monthly usage of 3GB; based against T-Mobile’s 4.5Mbps and unlimited monthly usage (GB), and against Vodafone’s 7.2Mbps and 5GB monthly usage, the Orange dongle seems rather low in comparison.

This aside, it is Orange’s competitive price and free laptop that make this deal special; this package will be extremely useful if you’re a person who needs affordable, hassle-free internet access while on the move - and with the portable Eee PC, the Orange package fulfills this function perfectly.

Can you recall the era when laptops for gaming were not so attainable? Before the lack of sales countered by the profit margins. I’m pretty certain everybody would have liked to have possessed one however couldn’t seriously justify it. Perhaps they weren’t the most functional however I still believe they were the best laptops. Even though they did get everyone thrilled I do not believe they sold in volumes because not many people actually buy laptops that are above the average mark. As bigger brands see the opening in the gaming laptop market, stuff appears to have shifted.

I believe they could class it as a premium portable and make tons of cash on these particularly with their economies of scale. The laptop computers being released by branded companies are all contending for the best laptop status. I think this will still be the encouraging factor for smaller retailers though. Most of the time the pre made notebooks are good performers however not fast enough and some consumers do not take well to that. Most Windows users will notice that as time goes on their system seems to get slower and slower. This in not an illusion! This system slowdown is real and can be quite annoying. But there is something you can do which should be a part of your routine maintenance. I will first try to describe the problem.

One thing that causes your system to slow down is that as files get stored on your hard drive, your files may have to get broken up and saved in fragments and are scattered all over your hard drive. This can happen for various reasons which we won’t get into here, but needless to say it takes longer to read these fragmented files when your system needs them.

Most users of Windows XP and other systems can easily ‘repair’ these problems. Normal and routine maintenance can resolve most of these types of PC speed issues. There is a utility called the ‘Disk Defragment utility which is built right into the operating system which can correct this kind of problem. This utility will ‘defragment’ the files on your drive. This term is given to the process of scanning the file system and rejoining the split files back into consecutive pieces. In this lesson we will use the Disk Defragment utility and defragment your hard drive. Let’s get started.

Defragmenting is one of the easiest ways to increase the performance of your PC. The frequency of which you should do this will directly depend on the amount of usage. The Disk Defragmenter Utility will reorganize these fragmented files into contiguous files thus increasing your hard drive’s reliability and performance.

This utility can be opened a number of different ways. The most common way is this: Click on the ‘Start’ at the bottom left of your screen. Then click on each successive menu option:

Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Defragmenter

After the ‘Analyze’ button has been clicked, the Disk Defragmenter program will tell you whether it thinks your files need ‘Defragmenting’. If you want to go ahead and do it, simply click the Defragment button.

If you’re an average PC user, the standard Disk Defragmenter utility will do a good job of keeping your drives defragmented and help to maintain peak system performance.

The important point is that whatever product you decide meets your level of need, it doesn’t do a bit of good unless ththis is done on a regular basis. Make it a part of your regular system maintenance.

Step aside Desktop, it’s the time of the portable computer, or at least that what the colossal demand alludes to. This battery shortage problem is not going to aide the situation either. In fact if anything has dented demand or shipments of laptops then its been limited supplies of components. Brands are trying to order the technology intervals but that doesn’t stop anyone from coming and upgrading things.

More brands are realising that gaming laptops is becoming big enough sector to pursue. These laptop computers are also rising in value because of the stern competition faced from low priced laptops. In my opinion laptops are actually good for gaming. Speed is much better than before. I think what’s most incredible is how slim the casings are and how low operating temperatures are the units run. Desktops are bigger and eat more electricity so no matter how much better gaming laptops have got desktops will always perform faster. There’s been no slow down in the laptop computer market. Taiwan, which is the leading manufacturing country of laptops is having trouble with the demand at the moment. Despite credit crunches and other economic conditions laptop computer shipments have amplified year on year and it doesn’t seem to decline any time soon. I think what makes it hard is that the technology changes all the time.

There seems to be a lot more variation and availability of gaming notebooks these days. You can actually get a very high spec for your money these days because even the up market technology is slipping into the mass market area very quickly. I think notebooks are a adequate alternative for gaming. Perhaps not exactly for the hardcore but they’re excellent for the rest of us. Past problems with big, hot notebooks for gaming are disssapearing and new thinner, attractive models are being launched. With that said gaming notebooks should never be cosidered in the same category as their desktop counterparts. There will be a difference and the point here is that its not a enormous factor for the majority. Gaming notebooks are always pressuring the speed margins of notebooks so its always a true indicator of how far the technology has come in those terms.

I think demand for custom laptops will always be around. On occasions, with bigger companies the quality of the prime components is not that good. In my mind being able to specify the processor, ram and hard drive is most suited the more hardcore people out there. Despite there being numerous of notebook computers in the market its unlikely you will find a lot of options of performance systems. Custom notebooks offer a fix to this. I like that fact that there are numerous of small sized companies providing good customer care for custom notebooks. This would be a large allurer to a couple niche groups.

I can’t wait to see what notebooks come out next. Simple ultra mobiles are the in trend. Tons of equivalent devices have already been released at a rapid speed. Supremely people would want an ultraslim notebook with a 15″ screen. If you use less powerful components then I estimate this is really doable even now.
